Innovation Project Manager
R&D Project Manager Helen is an experienced academic Research Fellow and media practitioner in the screen sector. She has a PhD in Sociolinguistics and Media Studies from Aberystwyth Universities and has worked on several collaborative R&D projects between industry and academia. From 2010-2012 she Project Managed a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Boom Cymru and Aberystwyth University, a first-of-its-kind research project looking at young audience engagement with Welsh language media, which became the basis of her own academic research, shaping the direction of her PhD.
In 2019 she led the academic audience research for the award-winning Wallace and Gromit The Big Fix Up (Fictioneers and USW) in partnership with Aardman. Helen’s research sits within UX (User Experience) and inclusive audience research, and Tri’s innovation is rooted in meaningful research. She is experienced in AGILE project management methodologies. In 2021she co-authored the Screen Survey Wales 2021 report, a comprehensive mapping of the screen sector in Wales looking at skills and training in the screen sector. This research revealed notable gender imbalance within the industry across Wales, and issues associated with workplace harassment, wellbeing, and mental health. Other recent publications include; The role of minority language media in the construction of identity during middle childhood (Interactions: Studies in Communication & Culture), Is This Even Possible?: Co-creating University and Industry Learnings for Immersive Experiences (The International Journal of Creative Media Research). In addition to her academic work Helen has worked as a Producer and Voice Director in animation for over 10 years.
